How Best to Partner With Your Clients to Create a Safe Working Environment

The good news is that statistically, work environments in the US are getting safer. Between 2003 and 2010 according to the BLS, there were 25% less non fatal work related injuries per year. But despite this good news, there were still nearly 1M days of loss productivity as a result of these non fatal work related injuries.

So clearly creating a safe work environment pays off for the employer and employees. A safe working environment  can improve moral as well as increase productivity. Every employer should have a goal of creating a safe environment for these reasons. Everybody wins when the work place is safer.

Here are some activities that you can do together with your client to help insure a safe work environment for your temporary associates and build a further bond with your clients.

  1. Help your clients communicate their safety expectations to their employees by assisting them to organize safety meetings, post safety signs around machinery, and make sure all employees have the right training for their jobs.
  2. Make sure the client is using machines that have been inspected and are in 100% top quality working order.
  3. Help your client establish safety guidelines and objectives for all the employees and temporary staff at their facility.
  4. Encourage your clients to clearly state the employees rewards (and consequences) to maintaining a safe work environment.
  5. Regularly brainstorm with your client how best to highlight safety programs in the facility.

These are just a few suggestions that can help cement your relationship with your clients. Please feel free to contact me for more ideas about turning your safety relationship into more sales for your company.

Of course always feel free to contact me and request a FREE workers  compensation quote too.

Training Employees To Lift Objects Correctly Can Reduce Workers Compensation Claims

Did you know that most work comp injuries related to lifting objects are the result of incorrect methodologies used in the lifting process- and not directly related to the weight of the object? That’s right, in many work comp studies, it has been found that heavy objects alone do not cause the actual injury, but rather the employee not knowing how to best use their body to safely lift the object is the main culprit.

Here are 6 suggestions that if your employees follow, should reduce back injuries and work comp claims.

  1. Do not twist the body while lifting an object
  2. Do not hold the object far away from the body. Try to find and keep your center of balance during the lifting process.
  3. Never lift with your back bent.
  4. Always use common sense when lifting- do not contort the body in an unnatural way.
  5. Always make sure you are stable while lifting an object. Slower the lift is always better.
  6.  Never be afraid to ask for help from other workers when lifting any object.

These are just a few suggestions that when followed can reduce claims, and should be incorporated into your safety program.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions about other ways to reduce your claims and to get a free work comp quote.

Stretching During Breaks Can Reduce Work Comp Claims

Stretching by your employees before a job and during breaks, can be an excellent way to prevent workers compensation injuries and claims. There are studies that demonstrate that employees that stretch, and do a little exercise before a shift, tend to be more alert and less likely to have an on the job accident.

Here are a couple suggestions you should make to your employees that can decrease your work comp claims.

  1. Take frequent, short breaks from repetitive, physically stressful work whenever possible. This allows your muscles and joints to recover a bit from unnatural tensions that may result from work.
  2. Do gentle stretching exercises at work regularly, paying particular attention to the parts of your body that you use most often. This reduces the muscle tightening that contributes to the problem.
  3. Watch for early symptoms, such as stiffness or other discomfort in heavily used body parts. Complete recovery is much more likely if the symptoms are recognized early.

These tips can be easily followed by your employees in most work environments, and over time can save you money.
