A Major Work Comp Insurer Checks Into The Hospital–A Sign of the Times

Dallas National has long been a carrier for many staffing companies work comp policies. Either through a Professional Employer Organization/PEO relationship , or via  a direct policy.

As a result of potential insolvency,  Dallas National has checked in to the Delaware “rehab. insurance hospital.”   This is usually part of the process preceding the termination of  high risk clients, like staffing companies– see link.

I strongly recommend that you contact your Agent or Broker to do a check up of your carrier’s health.  Work Comp Staffing Solutions has relationships with a few PEO’s that still underwrite staffing. Please contact me at david@StaffingCompSolutions.com and visit us at www.StaffingCompSolutions.com. I would be glad to offer you a quote should you need to find a new workers compensation relationship.

Workers Compensation Claims for Mental Illness Can Drive You Crazy!

Workers Compensation claims arising from mental Illnesses caused by work related activities  may be on the rise.  One of the primary reasons is that these claims are much more difficult to determine if they are fraudulent. The claims can be very costly to you as an employer, because treatment for these claims can last years and impact your mod rates.

Here is a great article that discusses this topic in more detail.

  http://www.workerscompensation.com/compnewsnetwork/workers-comp-blogwire/13884-psychiatric_and_mental_injury_workers.html

An excellent way to keep your workers compensation costs down is to partner with a Professional Employer Organization PEO.  Since all workers compensation claims affect both you and the PEO (as co employers), the PEO has a huge incentive (and resources) to investigate and determine whether  a claim is appropriate and legal BEFORE paying out.

Please feel free to contact Work Comp Staffing Solutions for a PEO  quote and to discuss other ways a PEO may make sense  for your business.  Work Comp Staffing Solutions can be reached at david@StaffingCompSolutions.com and visit us at www.StaffingCompSolutions.com

The STATE FUND STRIKES AGAIN -These Celebrities Should Have Partnered With A PEO!

A few weeks ago I mentioned how the NY State Fund bureaucracy lost Tina Fey’s workers compensation paper work and fined her 78K.  Now it turns out that late last year, the NY State Fund did the same thing to Jim Carrey– which resulted in an unnecessary fine of 72K (see link below for details)

http://www.workerscompensation.com/compnewsnetwork/from-bobs-cluttered-desk/18602-ny-wcb-turns-out-tina-fey-was-a-ok.html

Somehow I can not see Tina and Jim staying up late with their accountants dealing with the financial and administrative consequences that resulted from the State Fund’s mistake. For non celebrity staffing folks like us, these mistakes can cause countless hours of  headaches trying to correct.

A more efficient and less costly workers compensation and back office solution than the State Fund is a Professional Employer Organization (PEO.) A PEO that specializes in serving staffing companies. Why Workers Comp Solutions Turns Me On

Like all of us who are in the staffing industry, we find our greatest rewards come from helping people in their careers or in their businesses.  Recently I had the pleasure of helping a new client Avery Johnson, who owns Another Chance Staffing in Raleigh N.C. . Avery’s staffing business is extra special because he helps people who need a second chance in in order to pursue productive lives and careers.

I was particularly touched when Avery wrote me a note of gratitude recently.

“You have afforded me as a new staffing agency owner to find invaluable wisdom, clear cut direction and the ability to make sound decisions to reflect and discern on matching and aiming my experiences, skills with stable reputable relationships within this industry. Your willingness to patiently listen, be proactive and build a one on one relationship with me has been the winning edge in Least Staff

In today’s industry you must make sure you have the right confidants on board with you in order to win with integrity. We can always count on a positive and radiant word from you that will not only inspire us but that will speak growth and prosperity to our lives and our business.”

To say the least, I am humbled that a Work Comp Staffing Solutions client would share these thoughts with me.  It makes me want to try to help even more staffing firms find workers compensation solutions and improve their profitability.

Do Your Clients Understand Their Legal Responsibility For Ensuring That Your Employees Work In A Safe Environment?

After 16 years as a staffing owner, I found  that many clients believed that if a temporary employee got hurt at their site,  they had no legal responsibility to the employee. Not only is that incorrect under State law, but as the passage below indicates, the Federal government/OSHA  believes that  the “Host” employer incurs partial responsibility for the safety of its’ temporary employees.

“Host employers need to treat temporary workers as they treat existing employees. Temporary staffing agencies and host employers share control over the employee, and are therefore jointly responsible for temp employee’s safety and health. It is essential that both employers comply with all relevant OSHA requirements.”

David Michaels, PhD, MPH, Assistant Secretary of Labor for Occupational Safety and Health

While this may be a sensitive subject to address with each client, if your clients have this understanding up front, hopefully you will experience fewer workers compensation accidents

At Work Comp Staffing Solutions we are experiencing a record number of staffing companies contacting us about workers compensation quotes. Many are simply finding that State Fund rates are literally putting them out of business.

They want to work with a seasoned and knowledgeable team of staffing work comp-professionals.

Please contact us at davidstaffing@gmail.com and visit us at www.StaffingCompSolutions.com.  We look forward to discussing your workers compensation challenges, and finding a solution  that LOWERS YOUR RATES.
