Some times my staffing clients tell me that they have seen or heard about every kind of workers compensation claim possible.
After they share a few workers compensation claims stories with me, I would usually have to agree with them. Then I read this recent article (see link below) about some VERY VERY Strange Workers Compensation claims. These claims will leave you wondering whether any work environment is “truly safe.” It may also have you wondering what exactly is a “work environment” when it comes to a workers compensation claim?

I hope these unusual stories help you smile or chuckle a little– especially since these claims did not happen to you. There are basically 2 schools of thought on this issue. The first school of experts suggest that some workers compensation costs will decrease over time since comp costs will be shifted to ACA plans for the millions of workers who are covered under these new health programs. Which would be great for most staffing companies. Conversely, another school of experts say that the ACA will swamp the existing medical facilities and resources from day 1, forcing workers compensation claimants to wait longer for their treatments (at hospitals and clinics) , resulting in increased workers compensation costs and higher indemnity claims.
This article below discusses these issues in more detail. It also looks at Massachusetts’s experience since 2006 where they have had a similar plan as the ACA, and now have some history as to how it has impacted workers compensating costs.

Most staffing companies learned long ago that sending a workers compensation accident victim to the emergency room is probably the most expensive way to deal with the accident. The expenses generated from having an emergency room treat the employee, are bound to be very expensive– even for minor injuries. As a result, over the last 10-15 years, many staffing companies have wisely developed relationships with managed care providers that are located near their offices– believing that this was the best way to control their workers compensation costs.
Like with so many things in business (especially health care related), these relationships need to be managed carefully. This article explains how managed care companies are often over charging for many of their services, and that Third Party Administrators (TPA) that are supposed to be managing the managed care providers for the staffing companies, are not always doing their job properly.

This is another reason why working with a Professional Employer Organization (PEO) can help keep your workers compensation costs as low as possible. The PEO has specially trained staff to manage each accident situation, and make sure that the costs for treatment are reasonable- since the PEO is on the hook for these expenses too.
Please feel free to contact me at davidstaffing@gmail.com to discuss how you can start utilizing a PEO partner to better manage your workers compensation costs. Also visit us at www.StaffingCompSolutions.com to find out about our other staffing support services

transforming daily chaos into long-term stability
Work Comp Staffing Solutions has specialized in workers compensation solutions for staffing firms for the last 7 years and is now expanding its services in to management consulting. As a 25 year staffing industry veteran, with 17 years experience operating a 60 office staffing firm, I saw the need for this type of hands on and affordable management consulting in the staffing industry. Most recently I was asked by my PEO clients to help them control costs and operate more efficiently. Many firms these days have been suffering from a variety of operating issues including reduced margins because of increases in workers compensation and SUTA costs and as well as increased competition.
One of our new Work Comp Staffing Solutions Consulting clients is Teramar Staffing Solutions which is a 8M multi state staffing company. Scott Prast the owner of Teramar felt that he needed to improve profitability quickly in order to deal with the higher costs of his 2013 payroll burden. By analyzing the pricing and labor costs related to each client, and developing a business strategy to improve his margins, Work Comp Staffing Solutions has helped Scott increase Teramar’s overall profits– in addition to finding a workers compensation PEO solution. Work Comp Staffing Solutions is also helping Scott improve the efficiency of his sales and marketing programs in order to decrease costs and improve sales productivity.

About a year ago Advance Payroll Funding President Adam Stern, asked Vensure Professional Employer Organization (PEO) about the workers compensation market. I recently re read that article from 2012, and felt that the information was even more relevant today than a year ago. I would like to share it with you via this link.
http://www.advancepayroll.com/full-story.aspx
The reason it is even more important today is that the workers compensation insurance market for staffing companies has become more difficult to navigate and to secure affordable insurance. There are only a handful of qualified PEO’s still accepting staffing companies as clients; and usually only if they are referred by an experienced PEO broker like Work Comp Staffing Solutions. As of June 1, Work Comp Staffing Solutions has over 45 staffing company clients that generate nearly 50M in annual payroll throughout the country.
Please contact me TODAY at davidstaffing@gmail.com and visit our web site at www.StaffingCompSolutions.com for a free PEO quote.
BOTTOM LINE……WE HAVE THE RIGHT PEO RELATIONSHIPS TO HELP YOUR STAFFING BUSINESS.
