Cell Phone Use On The Job …. What Is Your Safety Policy?

One of my clients recently mentioned that his workers compensation rates were significantly increasing  because of an employee that experienced a major job related accident while texting on a staffing assignment.

Given that nearly everyone has a cell phone these days, I wondered how many of my clients had a specific policy about cell phone usage while on the temporary assignment?

I asked 15 of my clients and  found out only a few had included any information in their employee orientation  packages or really emphasized this issue with their staff.

Below is a link to an article that may help you formulate a company policy about cell phone usage on the job;  and how best to communicate best safety practices to your temporary employee staff.

With workers compensation  becoming more expensive and more difficult to secure and maintain, ALL staffing company  owners need to work with their employees to create the safest working environment. By staying current  with on the job safety guidelines, you will  protect your employees and keep your comp rates as low as possible. .

Are You tired Of Paying High Workers Compensation Rates in the Assigned Risk Pool?

Many staffing companies that are in the assigned risk or state workers compensation pools are finding that their 2014 premiums are making business much less profitable. They are searching for solutions and new business models so they can still eek out a profit this year, or even stay in business. Especially, since the governmental regulations for the new health care law (ACA) may significantly add to staffing companies administration costs.

I speak to dozens of  frustrated staffing company owners each month about these issues.  An increasing popular solution to decrease workers compensation costs and address the ACA liabilities, is using a Professional Employer Organization  (PEO.)

Please feel free to contact me at davidstaffing@gmail.com or www.StaffingCompSolutions.com to obtain a quote to determine if partnering with a Professional Employer Organization can save you money in your workers compensation and administrative areas.

I used a PEO in my staffing company for many years and it saved thousands of dollars each year.

I look forward to saving you money in 2014.

PEO’s Can Help Staffing Companies Implement the ACA

(and lower work comp rates too!)

In the most recent edition of Staffing Success from the American Staffing Association, there was an excellent article explaining the application of the new  ACA laws for  the staffing industry.  The authors discussed the significant amount of new paperwork and administration associated with correctly applying this new law to staffing companies.

These increased  administrative responsibilities (and liabilities) makes the value equation for using a Professional Employer Organization (PEO) as your back office/workers compensation solution that much more significant.

This article/link discusses the advantages of using PEO’s to deal with your new  ACA responsibilities.

As a PEO broker exclusively working with staffing companies, I find that most staffing owners join PEO’s initially to lower their work comp rates; but stay for years because the business model and administrative services make their staffing business more efficient.

Please feel free to contact me at davidstaffing@gmail.com or www.StaffingCompSolutions.com to discuss how a PEO can help lower costs in your business as well as enable you to meet the new paperwork demands of the ACA.

OSHA Busts Santa Claus

(Elves complain of unsafe working environment)

It was only a matter of time before the the Federal Government/OSHA  got involved in Santa’s business. To be sure, Santa’s employment lawyers will probably argue that the North Pole (where the toys are manufactured) is not covered by US labor law. But of course, the recipients of the toys are largely the well behaved kids in America, hence justifying  the Federal government’s/ OSHA  involvement.

You can read about Santa’s woes in this article

While Work Comp Staffing Solutions believes in best safety practices for all employees, we do feel that Santa’s elves have a special relationship with him,  and that it is best left for  the elves to solve their own work place challenges.

Hopefully, Santa will work things out with OSHA (and the elves) soon, so next year’s toys will be not be further delayed.

Staffing Industry Analysts Selects Work Comp Staffing Solutions as a Primary PEO Broker for Staffing Companies

Affordable Care Act – Options for Outsourcing Compliance

Last week Staffing Industry Analysts researcher , Andrew Braswell wrote an excellent article about different strategies that are available to staffing companies for dealing with the increased administrative complexities of Obamacare. One of the solutions SIA mentioned is employing a Professional Employer Organization (PEO) to assist in handling the additional administrative responsibilities that all employers must now be responsible for. Staffing Industry Analysts, in their research for this article, identified Work Comp Staffing Solutions as one of two “best brokers” for staffing companies to turn to when selecting a PEO.

We are humbled that Staffing Industry Analysts research has confirmed what our clients have been saying for many years.

“Worker’s compensation solutions for staffing companies”

This past year Work Comp Staffing Solutions has been able to help more staffing companies find workers compensation solutions than ever before. In total, we assisted 15 staffing companies with their workers compensation challenges. Even with the ever hardening workers compensation market, Work Comp Staffing Solutions clients were able to identify and manage the most economical workers compensation programs.

Here are some examples of the new staffing clients we helped in 2013:

  1. 2M Maryland staffing company did not have workers compensation for a few months because they could not afford the States increased premiums. We found them a Professional Employer Organization (PEO) solution where there was not a down payment, and all premiums were “pay as you go.”
  2. 8M Carolina day labor staffing company with a challenging work compensation loss history needed coverage quickly or their State Pool premiums may have forced them out of business. Work Comp Staffing Solutions found a workers compensation program with attractive premiums and an affordable deductible plan.
  3. 9M Arizona staffing company needed to find a workers compensation program in 72 hours when they contacted Work Comp Staffing Solutions. We found a PEO that did not require a down payment or deposit, and allowed them to stay in business. Work Comp Staffing Solutions also served as business consultants to this company in 2013 increasing their gross margins by 30% and lowering internal costs.
  4. 6 new staffing start ups located in throughout the United States. These staffing start ups are now employing hundreds of workers contributing to our growing economy.
  5. 1M Massachusetts Information Technology company that needed workers compensation coverage in all states.

In total, Work Comp Staffing Solutions assisted 15 new staffing clients this year which brings our client base to 52. We are humbled that our clients have entrusted this critical part of their business to our company. We thank them and wish them and all our friends in the staffing industry, a very happy and safe Holiday Season.
